Medina is recognized as one of the holiest cities for the followers of Islam located in the Hejari region of the Arabian Peninsula. The administrative headquarters of the Al-Madinah region of Saudi Arabia is also located in this city. Al-Masjid an-Nawabi, the burial site of Prophet Mohammed is one of the key attractions of the city and every year thousands of people visit this place.

Quba Mosque

The Quba Mosque in Medina carries a huge significance in Islam. According to the scripture, Quba Mosque had been constructed just after Masjid Al Haram and the scripture has described the virtue of praying inside the Mosque. The prophet also said, “He who purifies himself at his home and comes to Masjid Quba and offers two rakats therein, will be rewarded the reward of an Umrah (lesser pilgrimage).” [Sunan ibn Majah]

The place is renowned for its historic significance and one can see the green carpet named Rawdah.  The Prophet said, “Between my house and my pulpit lays a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit is upon my fountain (Al-Kauthar).” [Bukhari]

Al-Masjid An-Nawabi

There’s an interesting story behind choosing the location of the holiest Mosque on this planet. Prophet Mohammed was new in Medina and his followers were asking him to stay at their places. He used to be a polite guy and he answered that his camel was instructed by Allah and wherever it would stop that would be his new home. The camel kept on moving and stopped at a place and the present mosque is situated in the same place.

Masjid-e-Qiblatain is a special place in Medina that has become famous for the revelation of the Quran to alter the direction of Qibla from Bait-al-Muqadas in Jerusalem to the Ka’bah in Makkah.  It was a bad day for the Jews and the Muslims were very happy as they got the prophecy in their ancient books and the last Prophet had altered the direction of prayers from Jerusalem towards the house of Ibrahim.

It has said that when the alteration took place, people heard the echoes of weeping that was sounded from the tree and the followers also started crying.
