Top Places to Visit in Florida if You're a Sports Fan

Featured

Florida is known for many things. Miami and Key West are some of the US’ most popular party destinations, while the Everglades are popular for their diverse wildlife. The state is also a draw for international tourists thanks to Disney World and the many other theme parks in the area. It’s also renowned for the infamous “Florida man” internet meme.

The great weather, myriad of attractions, and west coast location all make Florida a popular place to visit for both Americans and those from abroad.

If you’re a sports fan and you’re considering visiting The Sunshine State, you may want to add these places to your itinerary.

Daytona International Speedway

Table of Contents

Daytona is a name that is synonymous with motorsport having hosted several of the biggest races in America. The most prestigious of these is the Daytona 500, a NASCAR Cup Series race that runs for 200 laps of the tri-oval circuit. It was first run in 1959 and has been on the calendar ever since.

Being one of NASCAR’s biggest races, more than 100,000 fans pack into the venue each year, all hoping to see their favorite driver cross the finish line first.

It’s also a popular race among those that enjoy placing wagers on the championship, with NASCAR betting odds available from most sportsbooks weeks and even months ahead of the race.

You’ll find events at Daytona International Speedway throughout the year, though racing tends to stop in August or September and begin again in January.

Don’t worry if nothing is going on while you’re there though, the circuit offers its Speedway Tours which lets you take a guided trip around the circuit.

Daytona is also the home of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and includes vehicles from all imaginable categories of four and two-wheeled racing covering many decades.

Hard Rock Stadium

The Hard Rock Stadium in Miami is the home of several major sporting events and teams. The Miami Dolphins NFL team are perhaps the Hard Rock’s most famous residents, though the Miami Hurricanes college football team also play their home games there.

It recently hosted the biggest game in American football, Super Bowl LIV, which saw the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20. Each year it also hosts the Orange Bowl, the second biggest game in college football behind the Rose Bowl in California.

The Hard Rock Stadium is not just a location for football fans. It also hosts the Miami Open, a tennis tournament that features in the ATP Tour Masters 1000 circuit and is a Premier Mandatory event on the WTA Tour.

It’s only recently moved to the Hard Rock, after being hosted at Key Biscayne between 1987 and 2018.

For petrol heads, the Hard Rock Stadium will become the home of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix in 2022, which will see the cars race around the stadium’s parking lot and alongside the building itself.

Unlike many stadiums, the Hard Rock is not currently offering stadium tours, so if you want to see inside this impressive facility, you’ll need to visit when an event is on.

The Amway Center

Located in Orlando, The Amway Center is a multipurpose indoor arena that is home to both the Orlando Magic NBA team, the Orlando Predators NAL team, and the Orlando Solar Bears ECHL team.

As well as hosting indoor football, basketball, and hockey games, the Amway Center is also a regular stopping place for the WWE.

You’ll find the Solar Bears and the Magic playing from the fall into the spring, while the Orlando Predators games are less predictable due to the young age of the National Arena League.

However, if you are in the area when a game is on, indoor American football is a unique spectacle that’s worth experiencing at least once.

Like the Hard Rock Stadium, the Amway Center doesn’t usually offer tours for fans, but it is open most days as it also hosts concerts and other events.
