5 Things that Make Kansas City A Beautiful Travel Destination

I always feel like Kansas City is underrated. The city has a lot of unique sites that travelers will love. I’ve driven across the U.S. multiple times, and each time I’ve always made sure to set aside a little time to explore Kansas City.

Every time I discover a new layer and depth to the city that makes it even more amazing. In this post, let us look five things that make Kansas City a beautiful travel destination. After reading this post make sure to check out a Kansas City Guide.

City Market

All visitors should make some time for City Market. This huge market has been going strong for over 150 years, and it has grown to one of the top farmer’s markets in the entire Midwest.

City Market is a staple of the city and is open year round.  It is a fantastic place to get locally grown fruits, veggies, and herbs. The market is also perfect for souvenir shopping, and you can find everything from little trinkets to handmade crafts. So what are you waiting for? Grab a hotel near the market and spend a day exploring!

Arabia Steamboat Museum

This museum has the world’s largest collection of pre-Civil War artifacts. When visiting the museum, you are embarking on a journey back to the mid-nineteenth century. You will explore the American frontier, see artifacts from the steamboat Arabia, and get a glimpse into the life of a pioneer. The Arabia Steamboat Museum is one of the most popular tourist attractions in KC and is well worth an afternoon of your time.

Kansas City Fountains

When most of us think of destinations with spectacular fountains, our minds wander to Rome or Versailles. Kansas City is sadly overlooked, and while it might not have the rich history of those cities, it has over 200 stunning fountains throughout the city. The city prides itself on preserving these historic landmarks all over the city.

Exploring the different fountains is easily one of the best things to do when visiting Kansas City

Kansas City Workhouse

This fortress looks like it belongs in a fantasy book. Back in the late 1800’s when it was built, it was referred to as a workhouse castle because its prisoners were responsible for building it. Nowadays, plans are to use this decaying medieval style castle as a community center.

However, at the moment it is just sitting there looking oddly out-of-place, its old walls now full of graffiti. This odd site is worth a quick visit when visiting Kansas City.

The Finger of John the Baptist

I’ve seen my share of crazy religious relics on my travels. I would never expect to find one in KC. However, laying behind glass there lies the remains of a human finger said to be the finger of the famed John the Baptist, cousin of Jesus. It was purchased and brought from Germany to its new home in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

Yep, you don’t even have to travel to Europe to see thousand-year-old religious relics.

Kansas City is a stunning place to visit. The city opens its arms to travelers, and with a variety of unique sites, the city will easily hold your attention. These are five things that make Kansas City a beautiful travel destination.

  1. The city is composed of several neighborhoods, including the River Market District in the north, the 18th and Vine District in the east, and the Country Club Plaza in the south. Kansas City is also known for its cuisine (including its distinctive style of barbecue) and its craft breweries.
